Evaluating the Effectiveness of Interventions in Reducing Exposure to Wildfire Smoke Among Low-Income Hard-To-Reach Populations
Gabrielle Wong-Parodi
School of Earth, Energy and Environmental Science
There is growing interest in conducting impactful community-based, interdisciplinary research to meet the challenge climate change poses to frontline communities. In this session, Gabrielle Wong-Parodi will provide an overview of the Our Communities, Our Bay project. This longitudinal study follows 420 households in frontline communities in the San Francisco Bay Area as the region is punctuated by wildfire smoke events and heat waves. Gabrielle will describe the co-creation of evidence-based interventions designed to reduce exposure and enhance health outcomes evaluated in this study, and some initial findings. The seminar will conclude with a discussion on making science actionable.
