Aparna Ananthasubramaniam
Aparna Ananthasubramaniam is pursuing a joint PhD in Information and Social Work at the University of Michigan. Ananthasubramaniam's research interests are in computational social science, with a particular focus on natural language processing, social networks, and agent-based models. Her research is inspired by her 10+ year career in nonprofit financial and homeless services, and studies how household economic shocks are connected to social and mental health outcomes, macroeconomic conditions, such as social policy and recessions, and social networks. Aparna's work particularly draws on theories from social work and complex systems to study how these different micro- and macro-scale factors are interrelated. Her work often stems from cross-disciplinary and community-engaged collaborations.
