Sociology

Colin Peterson

I'm a PhD candidate in sociology, with advisor David Grusky, and a graduate research fellow at the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality. I studied sociology and philosophy in college, at the University of Iowa.

I am interested in who gets what and why in the US, and in how these processes can be made more open and equitable. I pursue this by using quantitative methods with survey and administrative data. I'm also interested in the development of the social sciences, such as with the adoption of more rigorous, replicable, and open research practices, and in the advancement of its role in society, particularly in relation to knowledge and power.
