Shirley Zhou
Shirley Zhu is currently a Staff Applied Scientist at Uber. For the last five years at Uber, she has worked on a range of interesting projects involving experimentation platforms, causal inference, recommendation systems, personalization, Bayesian bandits, and multi-objective optimization. Before joining Uber, Shirley was a Technical Project Manager at the California Environmental Protection Agency. In that role, she led data-driven environmental projects, including time series and spatial analysis, and predictive modeling to support environmental risk decisions.
Shirley is originally from China and started her journey in the US first in academia, earning a PhD in environmental engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After that, she spent some time as a postdoc researcher at UC Berkeley, where she focused on environmental simulations and predictive modeling in pollutant transport.
