Title: Content Valuation at Netflix
Abstract:
We'll give an overview of the Netflix Data & Insights team and some of our problem spaces and then dive into the topic of content valuation. Understanding the marginal value of content is crucial for streaming services. We present a framework for estimating the incremental revenue of arbitrary sets of titles. In particular, we'll focus on the monetary value of title-driven acquisition and retention. While LTV is a natural candidate for this purpose, we demonstrate that LTV is likely biased upwards. Instead we use an approach based on a causal interpretation of Markov chains where the appropriate estimate is the difference in value functions evaluated at different states.
